MetraLabs GmbH prepares for the future:
Ceremonial laying of the foundation stone for the new production site

Ilmenau – June 26, 2025 – Today, MetraLabs GmbH set an important milestone on the way to its new company headquarters. The company, which specializes in the development and production of mobile service robots, invited guests to the ceremony of laying the foundation stone on Robert-Bosch-Ring. In the presence of the Mayor of Ilmenau, numerous partners, employees and long-standing companions, the symbolic foundation stone was laid for the modern office and production complex, which will be built this year in the immediate vicinity of the Technical University.

So wird das neue Gebäude der MetraLabs GmbH einmal aussehen.
This is what the new MetraLabs GmbH building will look like.

The management of MetraLabs GmbH opened the celebrations with a welcome address and presented the construction project. The company has grown considerably in recent years and wants to be equipped for the new capacity requirements and future growth. Initially, a building complex with a usable area of around 2,700 m² and a photovoltaic system for energy-efficient operation will be constructed. The total investment amounts to around 5 million euros, of which around 850,000 euros will come from the “Joint Task for the Improvement of Regional Economic Structures” (GRW) funding program of the Free State of Thuringia.

This was followed by a speech from the Mayor of Ilmenau, Dr. Daniel Schultheiß. The new building strengthens “Ilmenau as a center for science, research and business”, said Schultheiß. The official part of the ceremony ended with the placing of the time capsules by Managing Directors Dr. Andreas Bley, Dr.-Ing. Christian Martin and Dr.-Ing. Johannes Trabert, followed by the laying of the foundation stone. The construction company T&E Bau GmbH Gehren provided a special highlight of the ceremony with a ceremonial speech.

With the new building, MetraLabs GmbH not only wants to offer its employees a modern and sustainable workplace, but also be equipped for further growth and strengthen Ilmenau as a business location.
