What will retail look like in the future? Will there more robots in use? What applications are needed and what functions should robots provide? As a specialist in mobile service robotics, MetraLabs offers a platform at EuroShop 2017 to discuss these and other questions about the future of the retail robots. The EuroShop will take place from 5 – 9 March 2017 in Düsseldorf. MetraLabs can be found in Hall 7 at booth A37.

Düsseldorf/Ilmenau. At this year’s EuroShop, the world’s leading retail trade fair, MetraLabs presents two of its most successful mobile service robots: the TORY RFID inventory robot and the SCITOS A5 entertainment and guide robot. Both robots have been in use for some time. TORY is the world’s first RFID inventory robot in permanent application. It was installed over a year ago in the Erfurter branch of the ADLER fashion chain. Other stores followed. SCITOS A5 has already been used in hardware stores and museums. Since November 2016, our robot Tim has been showing the visitors of the Deutsches Technikmuseum Berlin through the exhibition.

Both robots are continuously developed further. SCITOS A5 has recently been equipped with safety functions. A 360° camera allows the use of the robot to monitor sales and storage areas. The TORY robot is currently used mainly for automated inventory recording via UHF-RFID. In addition, he is used as a shopping assistant, in which he leads customers to searched articles. In the future, TORY will assume additional tasks in retail. MetraLabs develops new features for this purpose e.g. voice recognition and synthesis, planogram management, cleaning, and transport options. „In the future of retail, mobile service robots will have a fixed place. With TORY, we want to offer a reliable all-in-one solution and develop it in close collaboration with our customers“ explains Dr. Andreas Bley, co-founder and CEO of MetraLabs. For small stores, MetraLabs introduces the light version of the classic TORY: With TORY to go, manual inventory via RFID can be performed faster and with a higher reading rate.

At EuroShop 2017, MetraLabs will give visitors the opportunity to discuss their ideas about the future of the retail and possible robot applications in the trade. All interested parties are invited to express ideas and wishes on the interaction wall or to contribute to the discussion under the hashtag #retailrobots on Facebook. TORY is also ready for selfies.
